There are lots of jobs in Compton because of all of the warehouses and manufacturing plants along the 91. However, to get hired on the spot you need to be able to fill a need or have a needed skill.

If you have ever operated any machinery before, you can apply to be a journeyman machinist. This includes being able to operate or have operated table saws and drill presses. There are several jobs available along the 91 and 710 freeway down into Long Beach that requires machine operating capabilities.

If you are good with numbers, go to a temporary employment agency and sign up to be an inventory taker. They are hiring right now for people to start taking year-end inventory of warehouses, retail stores, and other places. One of my temp jobs was in Carson helping a new inventory manager count everything in his tool crib which included hundreds of die molds and blanks for making drill bits and screwdriver heads. (It's how I know about them hiring machinists all the time. I forget the name of the company, though) I also did inventory for mall stores and warehouses too.

If you are good with computers, go to a temp agency and sign up to do data entry. One crazy data entry job I did was for finding names and addresses in phone books for mailing lists.

If you are good with people, sign up at McDonald's. No, really. Fast food places now pay decent wages and have excellent training programs. (Shania Twain used to be a manager at McDonald's once upon a time, and every time she goes in to one now she automatically goes down the training checklist to rate her servers.) If you want something slower paced, look for a job in the ethnic restaurants in the strip malls. They have such great food, why not learn how they do it?

You have lots of options. It's just a matter of going out and finding them.
Reply:Go to the web site monster.com put in all your info and then it will allow you to search all the jobs in your area. It will even let you post a resume and send it to many of the employers that are offering jobs.

Happy job hunting!
