Is it better to be a certified vet assistant than not to be when looking for a vet assistant job? ?

Also when getting certified does it matter where you got certified? Does the place where you get certified need to be accredited by the AVMA?

You do not need any schooling to be a vet *assistant*... You earn that title by on the job training and will be limited to restraining patients, cleaning up, filling prescriptions, and maybe taking brief histories from clients.

A vet *technician* does require schooling - a two year Associates of Applied Science degree... Not all states require this yet, but most do, and those who don't yet will be in the near future. The school needs to be accredited by the AVMA, or it's worthless.

Here's more info about what a vet tech does:

Good luck!
